Learn more about the Canada Greener Homes Grant and how Atlantic Canadians can apply for it to save on the installation or upgrade of a heat pump.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is a program facilitated by Natural Resources Canada that offers grants for homeowners who are investing in a new or upgraded heat pump.

In all Atlantic Canadian provinces, homeowners must obtain an EnerGuide Home Energy assessment prior to performing the upgrades to qualify. Following the evaluation, homeowners can:

  • Choose the projects you would like to complete from your report.
  • Get the work completed by your local Daikin dealer (save all receipts you will need them to receive your incentives).
  • Schedule a final Home Energy Evaluation with a Certified Energy Advisor for a post-evaluation report.
  • Receive your incentives.

The steps and eligibility to apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant differ by province.

How to Apply in Nova Scotia

Application Process

  • Nova Scotian homeowners will be required to provide documentation showing that the property getting the new or upgraded heat pump is their primary residence.
  • Landlords are not eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
  • Greener Homes rebates are only available through the Home Energy Assessment program and cannot be combined with rebates from other Efficiency Nova Scotia programs.
  • If your pre-retrofit assessment was conducted before April 1, 2020 your upgrades are not eligible for Greener Homes incentives and you will need to book a new assessment. If you installed eligible upgrades after December 1, 2020 and have already completed your post-retrofit assessment, you will be contacted to confirm your eligibility for Greener Homes grants.

Cost

The cost to apply for the Greener Homes Grant program in Nova Scotia is $199. Homeowners who install at least one eligible Greener Homes retrofit recommended by your energy advisor will be reimbursed $100 following your post-retrofit evaluation.
