Ducted Heat Pump Installation in Halifax and Dartmouth

A ducted heat pump heats and cools your whole home through a central air handler and your ductwork. Our ducted heat pump installation in Halifax and Dartmouth follows the same four steps on every job:

  1. Free in-home assessment. We look at your ductwork, electrical panel and the best spot for the outdoor unit.

  2. Heat-loss calculation and written quote. We size the system to your home’s actual heating needs, not just its square footage.

  3. Installation. We install the outdoor unit, indoor coil or air handler, refrigerant lines, thermostat and electrical connections, and make any duct changes. Most installs take 1-3 days.

  4. Testing and walkthrough. We commission the system, show you the controls and explain our maintenance plans. We install in Dartmouth, Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage, and across industrial Cape Breton.

How Much Does a Ducted Heat Pump Cost in Nova Scotia?

Price depends on your home’s size and what your ductwork and electrical service need.  Prices can range from $14,000 up to $26,000. Your assessment sets the real number. Here are some factors that it will depend on:

  • Electrical upgrade: some homes need a panel upgrade, for example from 100 to 200 amps.

  • Ductwork modifications: sealing, resizing or adding runs.

  • Oil tank and furnace removal: if your oil tank is being removed.

  • Hot water source: If oil is being removed is an electric or hybrid thot water tank needed?

Switching From Oil or Replacing a Furnace

Interested in getting rid of oil? There are three common ways to do it, and we can retrofit your existing ductwork for any of them:

  • Add-on heat pump. We install a heat pump coil above your existing furnace (natural gas, propane or electric, if compatible). The heat pump does most of the heating, and the furnace backs it up in deep cold. This usually costs less up front and keeps your current furnace in place.

  • Heat pump with an air handler. The air handler replaces your furnace and moves air through your existing ducts. Nothing is burned, so there are no fuel deliveries
  • Electric backup. Heating elements in the air handler provide extra heat in extreme cold or during defrost cycles, sized to your home.

If you are removing an oil furnace, we can include oil tank removal in the same quote. Not every furnace suits an add-on coil, so we confirm compatibility at your assessment.

Rebates and Financing for Ducted Heat Pumps

Rebate programs change often. We checked Efficiency Nova Scotia’s website on October 13, 2026, and this is where things stand:

  • Moderate Income Rebate: available to homeowners whose household income falls under set limits and whose home is mainly heated with non-electric sources. Efficiency Nova Scotia has changed its rebate levels, so confirm current amounts before you decide.

  • Heat pump rebates: centrally ducted heat pumps on Efficiency Nova Scotia’s qualifying list may be eligible, but rebates are not available for replacement heat pumps.

  • Federal: a National Heat Pump Rebate has been announced, but details are still limited.

ATL-REFAC is an authorized contractor with Efficiency Nova Scotia. We can tell you which programs your home may qualify for at your assessment.

Daikin Ducted Heat Pump Systems

We confidently recommend Daikin ducted systems. The Daikin FIT uses an inverter compressor that adjusts its output to your home instead of switching fully on and off. At a Nova Scotia test site, a Daikin FIT used 52% less energy than a standard single-stage heat pump during one week, and Daikin reports average savings of 30-40% over non-inverter systems. Your savings depend on your home’s layout, age and location. Read how a Daikin FIT compares on energy savings at this blog article: Daikin FIT Heat Pump Savings . How much does a ducted heat pump cost in Nova Scotia?

Most ducted heat pump installs typically run about $14,000 to $26,000 before HST and rebates, depending on home size, ductwork and electrical needs.

Are ducted heat pumps worth it?

Often, yes. If you have ductwork and heat with oil, propane or electric resistance, a heat pump moves heat instead of making it, and Efficiency Nova Scotia notes that centrally ducted heat pumps can deliver up to three times the energy they use. They also cool your home in summer. If you have no ducts or only want to heat a few rooms, ductless may suit you better. We run the numbers at your assessment

How quickly can you install a ducted heat pump?

This often depends on whether or not an electrical upgrade is required. However if this is not a requirement we can typically turn around your installation in 2-3 weeks.
