Are you ignoring any of these signs that your walk-in cooler or freezer needs repair or maintenance?  Read carefully to see if any of these are true for your unit:

FROST BUILD UP

Your unit may be defrosting and then refreezing, becoming a safety concern.  It also may be an indication of excess condensation.  If it’s near the door, the seal/door gasket may need attention as warm air could be entering.  This requires immediate attention by a specialist.

STRANGE NOISES

A unit that makes loud or unusual noises is a sign that there may be issues if you don’t take care of it right away. A service technician will be able to figure out where the noise is coming from and what the next step is to keep your walk-in functioning properly.

ODD ODOURS

Coolant leaks are often accompanied by strange or stale smells. If you notice a weird smell in your walk-in, it may mean that your coolant is leaking, and your condenser is old or malfunctioning.  it may be time to assess an upgrade to make sure you stay up and running.

FLUCTUATING TEMPERATURES

Your unit should maintain a steady temperature.  If it is not constant, it could mean a loss of inventory.  This may be a sign of bigger problems so it’s vital that you have someone check on your system. Many walk-in coolers/freezers have sensors that alert you if the temperature rises to a certain level, so be sure to keep an eye on this closely.  As well, ensure that the doors aren’t being propped open for long periods of time, allowing warm air to enter the unit.

WATER LEAKS

If there is water on the floor it is a safety hazard – as it can lead to mold or mildew growth.  Faulty, old insulation and damaged seals can both contribute to water leak problems. This requires prompt attention.

DOOR WEAR AND TEAR OR DAMAGE

A door that is not in top shape can lead to constant running of your unit, increasing your costs, as well as resulting in inconsistent temperatures which can lead to a host of problems.

Repairs and maintenance are a necessity to keep your unit safe and your business running. If your unit is faulty, it can result in lost inventory and end up costing you more in the end.
